Recently, the ballfields just down the road from my home have made great progress on their goal to bring night baseball to the neighborhood. I love baseball. I love astronomy. And yeah, I know those two hobbies are going to clash. But it's gotten me thinking about how bad light pollution has become. Just in the last five years my southern sky has gotten progressively worse to the point where it's starting to look like New Jersey again. Morgantown, WV is getting very very bright. *sigh*.
The scary thing is that you can quantify this. I dunno if you're aware but there have been great maps put out showing the light pollution around the world. And it's pretty grim viewing. You can find one site with these maps here:
